Introduction / History

The Kompara Gimme are an ethnic group located in the northern part of Cameroon. Their roots trace back many generations in the region, where they have developed a distinct language and culture. The Kompara Gimme have traditionally lived in small, close-knit villages, maintaining a strong sense of identity and community. Their history is shaped by their adaptation to the local environment and their interactions with neighboring groups, which have influenced their customs and way of life.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Kompara Gimme are primarily subsistence farmers, relying on the cultivation of crops such as millet, sorghum, and maize. Men and women often work together in the fields, while women also manage household duties and care for children. Livestock, including goats and chickens, are kept for food and trade. Meals are simple and based on what is locally available, with grains and vegetables forming the staple diet.

Family life is central to the Kompara Gimme, with extended families living together or nearby, supporting one another in daily tasks and important decisions. Elders are highly respected and play a key role in guiding the community.

Celebrations are important social events, marked by traditional music, dance, and communal meals. These gatherings are opportunities for the community to come together, reinforce cultural values, and pass on traditions to younger generations.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Kompara Gimme primarily follow traditional African religious practices. Their beliefs center on the veneration of ancestors and the spiritual world, with rituals and ceremonies conducted to seek blessings, protection, and guidance. While there is some exposure to other religions, such as Islam and Christianity, traditional beliefs remain the foundation of their spiritual life and community identity.

What Are Their Needs?

The Kompara Gimme face significant physical needs, including limited access to clean water, healthcare, and education. Many villages are isolated, making it difficult to receive essential services. Spiritually, the Kompara Gimme have little access to the gospel or Christian resources in their own language. There is a need for translation of Scripture and culturally appropriate outreach to share the message of Christ.
